We are seeking TWO paid interns to support the outreach and communication of a marine protected areas project. One internship will be based at the AgriFood and Biosciences Institute in Belfast, the other at the Scottish Association for Marine Science in Oban.

Internship 1

School engagement and competition management support

The intern will work closely with the Communications lead to help develop and deliver workshops and activities that introduce school children in the project areas to their marine environments, marine protected areas, and methods to monitor protected coastal and marine animals. The intern will also role out two competitions – one for schools and one for a more general audience. This post will be based in Oban at the Scottish Association for Marine Science.

Internship 2

Exhibition development and event management support

The intern will work with the Communications Lead at SAMS, the Project officers at AFBI and liaise with staff at the Murlough National Nature Reserve to deliver a project legacy display for visitors to this site. The display will combine site and digital components. The intern will also assist in the planning and running of the final project event in June. This post will be based in Belfast at the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute.

Each internship is available immediately and will be paid at the Scottish Living Wage of £9.90 an hour to a total value of £4k (c 11 weeks full-time or 22 weeks part-time).

The ideal candidates will have excellent communication skills, a passion for science communication, and a background in marine science and/or conservation.

Funds are available until 30/9/22.  Claims for work completed should be submitted by Jul/Aug for processing timely.
