As part of the Seas of the Outer Hebrides (SEASOH) project, we are running a series of community events around the islands during February 2020. The sessions are FREE, informal and we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds to come along – everyone’s opinion matters. We’ll run two sessions as part of each event – both with the same content. Session times for each event are: 2-4 pm and 6pm-8pm (see the table below for the full schedule of events). Family-friendly activities and free refreshments (tea, coffee, juice, cake) will be available to all. Although time has been put in for the sessions to run for anything up to 2 hours, we would really appreciate anyone being able to come along for whatever time they could spare.

The programme will include: an introduction to the project, and conversations about what communities feel is important about the seas around our islands. We’ll also have some fun with short, family-friendly activities run by a local artist. There will be a feedback form, and the opportunity to talk privately if anyone wishes.

Our intended outcome from the events will be an understanding of what benefits communities benefits they would like to see from Marine Protected Areas* and what they feel is important in terms of management. We will feed back our findings from these engagement events to communities primarily through our website.

*Marine Protected Areas are those designated as protected for the benefit of people and nature. Within these areas, some management of human activities may be needed, but these areas are never closed to all activities.
